The Textile Museum is the largest cultural center in Italy dedicated to the enhancement of ancient and contemporary art and textile production. It represents the historical memory and cultural interface of the Prato district which, since the Middle Ages, has been identified with the production of fabrics.
Over the years the collections have seen a significant increase and in 1997 the collection of contemporary fabrics was born, which increases with seasonal fashion trends thanks to the relationship with the PratoTrade association, a selection of textile companies producing clothing fabrics.
In May 2003, the Museum found its definitive location in the restored premises of the Ex Cimatoria Campolmi, a symbol of the textile manufacturing event in the area.
The Ex Cimatoria Campolmi is perhaps the most important example of industrial archeology in the Province of Prato. It is an architectural complex of 5800 square meters, located within the medieval walls.
